They sent me, the oldest, to college and then decided that they were going to adopt another child. When I was just a teenager I discovered that learning American Sign Language could really help young kids deal with some pretty horrific events. My cousin had stopped speaking altogether for about 2 years after her father was arrested for a homicide.
