Aren’t All German Language Learning Software Programs the Same?
Actually, no. Not all German language learning software programs are the same. Some will help you reach your language goals while others will only provide you with a basic but unrefined beginner version. The biggest problem with the unrefined beginner version is that you have nowhere to go once you’ve finished the program. It’s kind of like sitting down to learn the piano and only being permitted to learn 3 notes. Who wants that?
With a trip to Germany on the horizon, I would totally believe that getting the most complete and the most comprehensive German language learning software is the most beneficial. It’s all too frustrating to only have a small amount of the information that necessary and it certainly isn’t going to give anyone the understanding they need to pull off any kind of practical use in the future.
Just like a lot of kids, I had learned to count to 100 in Spanish but that certainly doesn’t mean I can run off to a Spanish speaking country and dole out the compliments, get directions, or meet new friends unless they happen to know fluent English. It’s the same concept. If you want to be able to become proficient you have to be able to understand sentence structure, tenses, genders, and how the language fits together rather than just random words.
Making sure that your program has enough depth to provide you with strong basics as well as the potential for a fluent command is the first step. Of course, you also want there to be various methods like pronunciation help and even some games to help you get better at word recognition. From my own experience, I believe that German language software programs aren’t just about piecing together words but actually understanding what it is you’re communicating.
