If I can Learn Conversational Spanish at Age 50 so can You!
At my age I didn’t think I could learn conversational Spanish. I have heard that it’s easier to learn second languages when you’re young. I work in production at a plant where probably half of the employees speak Spanish. Since I’ve been home recovering from a surgery to fix a work accident, I pretty much needed something productive to do. I was just sitting on the couch watching some bad reruns of some poorly written TV shows. Needless to say, I was getting depressed.
It looks like I’m doing myself a huge favor. Not only do I find that I have a project that helps keep my mood up, but it looks like I will be returning to work with an administrative job since I won’t be able to be on the floor anymore. So, I will be able to communicate with all of the employees, or at least those who speak English or Spanish. Maybe if I have more time off for recovery, I’ll tackle another language.
The truth is I thought that the idea to learn conversational Spanish wasn’t going to do the trick. It was my wife that decided I should try this out. I kept telling her I was too old. Like she always does when she is right, she ignored me and here I am.
What I like most about the course is that I get to take my time and learn at my own pace. Some days I feel like I am whizzing through it but I know my kids could talk circles around me. Regardless of their snappy little minds, I have been able to get enough learning time in that I would say my months off have been quite productive.
The administration was really pleased to know that I had done this, and they have a position waiting for me when I return. I really didn’t think I could learn conversational Spanish at 50, and I am really looking forward to continuing my progress through the internet.
