Let’s Learn Spanish Like Crazy

learn spanish like crazy - flag imageUntil I decided to learn Spanish like crazy, I was seriously one of those underachieving language lovers that couldn’t completely grasp what was going on in my own neighborhood. I will admit it. I happen to be one of those individuals who could appreciate and admire other cultures, but never get involved.

Did you know that even the Spanish words we use in English on a regular basis are more often mispronounced than pronounced correctly? Who knew? A friend of mine and I decided to learn Spanish like crazy because we realized that we were not exactly able to communicate with those who shared our fences, our streets, and our buildings in our neighborhood. The best we could do was exchange smiles.

My friend, Lana, became highly interested in a relative of a neighbor when he came to visit. Sure, there are some things that need little more than a smile but her inability to communicate effectively was a huge stumbling block. Thus, it was apparently time for both of us to put our little noses to the grindstone and become more than just the people in the neighborhood who couldn’t tell if they were being talked about, talked to, or completely ignored.

Our efforts are really starting to pay off. Lana and Abejundio are a hot ticket right now and I was able to finally properly thank my neighbor for his help in the snow last winter and offer him the same in return some day. With patient smiles and encouraging nods, those around us listen intently as we work on mastering a flow of our sentences and try to understand the responses we get.

To learn Spanish like crazy all we had to do was find an online program that would allow us to move quickly and learn as much as we can in one sitting. We get together every evening for about two hours and we work it out together in front of our technological classroom. It’s been fun and productive, and pretty soon I will be able to chat with confidence about almost any topic when I see the people whom I have lived around for the last several years.
